Wild Things – January 2017

On behalf of CROW and the animals we serve, the CROW team would like to wish all our loyal supporters and followers a happy and prosperous 2017.

2016 was a challenging year for the CROW team with the ongoing drought making it difficult to find suitable release sites for the many patients that are rehabilitated at our centre. Recent rains have provided some much-needed relief throughout the province and has given our team a small window for releases. Ensuring animals have an abundance of food and water upon release, is paramount to the success of their reintegration back into the wild.

Over the month of December, the CROW centre was a hive of activity with our vehicles coming in and out every day attending to rescue calls all over the KZN province. In December alone, 22 vervet monkeys were rescued, 101 geese, 304 garden birds and over 200 other mammals. Needless to say, our team found those 4 weeks tiring but were relieved to have so many considerate members of the public who took the time to call our team out when they saw a wild animal in distress. A huge thank you goes out to our hard working depots who are always there to lend a helping hand when things get busy.
