Where there’s a Will there’s a way…

Leaving a bequest or legacy to CROW in your Will is an unique way to celebrate and honour your life as an animal lover and or wildlife enthusiast. Legacies also allow you the opportunity to continue supporting and protecting our precious wildlife well beyond your lifetime.

What is a Bequest?

A bequest or legacy is quite simply a gift that is stipulated in your Will. A bequest can take the form of a monetary donation, a piece of property and or a particular item in your possession such as your car, computer or even your household appliances and furniture.

Writing or Amending your Will

Writing or amending a Will can seem like a daunting task, but in fact these days it’s much simpler than you may imagine. Before you make an appointment with your solicitor or financial advisor, we suggest you make a list of all your income and belongings and then think carefully about how you want these to be distributed once you’re gone.

It is important to remember your Will is a legal document, so it is always a good idea to use the services of a lawyer or a registered financial advisor to ensure it is worded correctly and therefore legally binding.

If you already have a Will and would like to add CROW as a beneficiary, this may be possible by adding a codicil rather than rewriting your entire Will from scratch. Your lawyer, bank or financial advisor will again be best placed to advise you on this.

What is Estate Duty?

Estate Duty is payable to the government on all estates valued at R3.5 million and above. If you own property, have life insurance policies and or provident fund benefits, you will be surprised how quickly the R3.5 million threshold can be exceeded.

Charitable bequests, such as those made to CROW are exempt from Estate Duty and are deducted from your estate before the duty is calculated.

Why remember CROW in your Will?

People who leave bequest to CROW do so for a variety of reasons. Some people remember us because they have personally witnessed the life-saving care and treatment we provide to injured and orphaned wildlife, others because they are passionate about animal welfare and or wildlife protection.

Regardless of how our donors have come to know the hard work and dedication of our organisation, they all share one thing, a love of animals and a desire to help those in distress that cannot help themselves.

For over 30 years, CROW has been successfully rescuing and rehabilitating injured and orphaned animals that simply have nowhere else to go. Regardless of what indigenous species, injury or circumstance has led them to our centre, we are dedicated to ensuring each and every animal receives a fighting chance to return to the wild where they belong.

Historically over 60% of CROW’s donations have come from bequests. This vital funding therefore enables us to save the lives of thousands of injured and orphaned animals every year and ensure our centre can cater for their specialised needs throughout the often lengthy rehabilitation process. Leaving a bequest to CROW in your Will, no matter how big or small, is therefore the ultimate gift you can give to our precious wildlife.
